It’s A Matter Of Straps - Restrap and Reduce

Closet Caryall Laptop Tote with Replaceable Straps

When you think of your favorite handbag, you think of the material, structure, color, design, compartments, hardware etc. Rarely if ever, you think about the strap. While the rest of the bag steals the spotlight,
it’s the
strap that quietly supports it all.

Straps and Comfort

Strap is the component of your handbag that literally binds the bag to you, making it an extension to your own movement.  At Ittara, we realized early in our functional design journey that a handbag is only as comfortable and as durable as the straps that carry its weight.  Too thin, they dig into your skin uncomfortably, Too wide, they slide down easily, forcing you to readjust them constantly. Then there’s the length!  If they're too short, they’re hard to put on the shoulder while overly long straps can swing around and obstruct your walking.

Furthermore, Straps tend to wear out long before the bag does. Worn-out edges, discoloration, cracks, broken buckles, or stretched-out material means saying goodbye to an otherwise perfectly good bag

All in all, straps do more than just hold a bag in place. They are the ultimate reason for your comfort, convenience and sustainability.

Choosing the Right Straps

1. Width and Shape: For long-lasting comfort, choose straps designed with optimal width, so they won’t dig into your skin or slip off your shoulder.  Sometimes, shape also play a role. We have found that big bags that are built to carry heavier items, benefit with flat straps as opposed to a rolled one. Flat strap means increased surface area and a better distribution of weight on the shoulder. Leading to better comfort.

2. Adjustable Length: It's ideal to have straps that can be adjusted for length. Whether you’re tall, short, or layering up in winter, adjustable straps can conveniently fit your body.

3. Look for high quality craftsmanship and materials that can withstand daily wear and tear.

4. Replaceable straps. Since straps do bear the most weight, even the well-made ones are bound to wear out sooner than the rest of the bag. In case of eventual wear, replaceable straps can be swapped out for new ones. Saving the bag from premature disposal.

Reducing Waste By Design

At Ittara, we believe straps should enhance your bag experience, not ruin it. That’s why we’ve designed straps with the perfect balance of comfort, durability, and functionality.

By making straps comfortable and replaceable, we’re reducing waste and helping you keep your bags for longer. It’s a simple change, but one that makes a big impact the planet. The strap is the silent strength behind every handbag.
